With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Mr. Ahmed Ali Tariq, a distinguished engineering professional and the founding partner of SEM Engineers. Mr. Tariq passed away peacefully on the month of January in the year 2021, leaving behind a legacy of expertise, innovation, and unwavering dedication to the field of electrical engineering.

Born in 1950, Mr. Ahmed Ali Tariq earned his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1974. His illustrious career spanned nearly five decades, and he played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of electrical engineering in Pakistan.
Mr. Tariq began his professional journey in 1974 as a Site Engineer with Imperial Construction Co. Ltd., where he contributed to the construction of E.V.H. Transmission Lines. Over the years, his career took him to various significant roles, including serving as a Sub-Divisional Officer with the Water and Power Development Authority (WPDA), where he oversaw the construction of 66 KV and 132 KV Transmission lines and Grid stations.


His international experience included working in Saudi Arabia with M/s National Construction Co. Ltd. on the electrification works of the Royal Saudi Air Force, and in Kuwait with M/s Salim Al Niaf Electrical Co., where he was involved in designing and supervising the Kuwait Naval Base.


Mr. Tariq’s commitment to excellence led him to Iraq, where he worked on projects such as the Medical Rehabilitation Centre in Tikrit, demonstrating his expertise as a Project Engineer and later as a Project Manager with respected companies like M/s Mishary Al Khalid and Partners and M/s Dar-El Bina Contracting Co.
In 1983, Mr. Ahmed Ali Tariq co-founded SEM Engineers, where he served as a beacon of leadership and innovation. His role as a visionary in the field of electrical engineering extended beyond designing and supervising electrical systems for residential, industrial, and commercial buildings. Mr. Tariq’s influence reached into the realms of telecommunications, fire safety, and security systems.


A distinguished member of the Pakistan Engineering Council and the IEEE (USA), Mr. Ahmed Ali Tariq’s contributions to the engineering community were profound and enduring. His legacy lives on in the projects he undertook and the countless individuals he mentored and inspired throughout his illustrious career.
As we mourn the loss of a true industry icon, we extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Tariq’s family, friends, and colleagues. May his soul rest in peace, and may his contributions continue to illuminate the path for future generations of engineers.
